Line Magnetic 508IA

Has anyone heard this amp or had any experience with it? There is one for sale in my local classifieds. I've heard good things about some of their other models but I don't recall reading anything about the 508IA. Thanks.

I looked it up, overall seems like people love it.

Some had questions about serviceability.

It is a handsome piece I'll say that much.

What speakers would it be driving?

The good thing in my case is that I am in Asia and there is a Line Magnetic dealer here in Hong Kong. The 508 is quite a beast in weight too. 85 pounds!

I don't have much in the way of speakers right now because I rarely even get to use them due to "me against the family" so I am mainly still a headphone guy. The bookshelf speakers that I do have now are just small Dynaudio, DM 2/7. I would mainly try using the 508 with my hard to drive headphones. And I am considering the Raal SR1a, which requires even more power than any of my current headphones and speakers included.

One of the local high end audio dealers converted and dedicated a wall to headphones only.

They had some beautiful Roger's tube amps with red glossy paint on the shelf below the headphones, apparently they are also headphone amps - a bit large for the task of you ask me.

Line Magnetic, rings a bell, think the CD player was on my short list a few years ago before I started dreaming of top loaders.

I heard it at Goldprint Audio in Lexington, NC. It's a very beautiful sounding and overall very impressively built 48wpc SET Tube Integrated. It was paired with some Devore Orangutans speakers. After a painful hour of listening to a Rogue Integrated I asked/begged if it would be possible to hear the new 805 LM integrated. Everyone in the room knew immediately it was something else. If I didn't already pick up a pair of some used Allnic A6000 60wpc Quad Parallel 300bxls SET Monoblocks from Audiogon I would have purchased the unit myself right then and there. It was everything a SET amp should be. Organic, rich, holographic, beautiful palpable midrange, sparkly highs, and dynamic bass. It made the Rogue integrated sound like mud. For the price it simply can't be beat!

That sounds exactly like what I would love to have in my home set up. And if it could provide the same paired with some of my headphones using the speaker taps, I would be delighted.

The trial will have to wait until I go back home in August.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
